Give your creation a pair of eyes
Bring pumpkins, props and handmade characters to life with a pair of moving, animated eyes. S.T.A.R.E. stands for Smart Twin Animated Roving Eyes — an invention from the workshop of Lord Clive P. Gourdsbury, made by GurgleApps for creative makers.
Use the eyes in your own build, or add our Display Stand & Eye Mount to make a character you can dress with interchangeable faces sold separately (coming soon).
Solder-free, with the software already installed
The ESP32 arrives with the eye software preloaded. The plug-in PCB layout and supplied leads make assembly straightforward, with no soldering required - It's plug & play!
Connect the components, attach the included Micro USB cable to a suitable USB power source, and give your project a little personality.
What's included in every kit
- 1 × S.T.A.R.E. circuit board
- 1 × ESP32 with preloaded eye software
- 2 × TFT eye displays
- 2 × 7-pin Dupont connecting leads
- 1 × Micro USB cable
Size and display
- Eye screens: two round 1.28-inch TFT displays, approximately 32.5 mm in diameter, each with a resolution of 240 × 240 pixels.
- Circuit board: approximately 82.5 × 51.5 mm.
Screen size refers to the display itself; the surrounding display circuit board and connector extend beyond it.
Choose your kit
Electronics Kit includes all the components listed above. Ideal for fitting animated eyes into your own pumpkins, props, and custom builds.
Kit + Display Stand includes the same electronics, plus the S.T.A.R.E. Display Stand & Eye Mount: two PCB support feet and a glasses-style frame that holds both eyes and attaches to the board. The frame also has slots for our interchangeable laminated faces that are coming soon.
Change the face, change the character
Add a laminated character face to the eye mount to give your S.T.A.R.E. a new look. Swap characters for different occasions while keeping the same electronics underneath.
Laminated faces are coming out soon and are optional and sold separately. They require the Display Stand & Eye Mount. The Electronics Kit option does not include the printed stand or eye mount.
Getting started
- Fit the ESP32 into the circuit board's connector.
- Connect the left and right eye displays using the two supplied leads.
- Fit the printed mounting parts if you chose the Display Stand option, or position the eyes in your own build.
- Connect the Micro USB cable to your USB power source.
A USB power supply is not included. Choose the kit option that matches your build before adding it to your basket.
